Every room sounds wrong for its own reasons, so no two of our jobs get the same fix. Here is what a recent client near Charlotte was dealing with, and what we built.
Golf simulator garage soundproofing in Fort Mill, SC
The room
A golf simulator in a garage roughly 30 by 11 feet, with living space directly above it. Every strike sent impact noise up through the ceiling into the rooms overhead, and the family also wanted the simulator bay closed off from the rest of the garage.

What we did
- Took the existing ceiling down to the joists and filled the cavity with mineral wool.
- Rebuilt the ceiling on resilient isolation clips and hat channel, so the new ceiling is not tied directly to the floor framing above.
- Hung two layers of 5/8-inch drywall with damping compound between them.
- Built an insulated divider wall with double pocket doors to separate the simulator bay from the rest of the garage.
- Wrapped the hitting area in black stretch-fabric acoustic panels over 2-inch rigid fiberglass board, in a band across the ceiling and down the side wall, to absorb the sound of each strike instead of letting it ring around the garage.

What it was built to do
Keep simulator impact noise from carrying into the rooms above, close the bay off from the rest of the garage, and stop the hard surfaces around the hitting area from ringing after every shot.
